Want to post a news? Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HAAS), established in 1956, primarily engages in applied basic and applied technological research for cold-region agriculture. Its research focuses include crop breeding, black soil conservation, agricultural machinery, farming and cultivation, plant protection, animal husbandry and veterinary science, food processing, rural energy, facility horticulture, agricultural remote sensing, and information technology. HAAS is tasked with providing scientific and technological support and technical services for the province's agricultural development, rural progress, and farmer income increase. It oversees 29 research institutes (branches) located across different agricultural ecological zones within the province. HAAS boasts 136 national (ministerialprovincial) level platforms and 33 talent teams, with a staff of 2,026 employees. In recent years, centering on the requirements of technological innovation and industrial development, HAAS has continuously strengthened the breeding of improved varieties, and the research, development, and promotion of new technologies and products. It has fully supported the development of modern agriculture in Heilongjiang Province in areas such as large-scale yield increase of grain crops, large-scale expansion of soybean planting, promoting comprehensive utilization of straw, advancing the protection and utilization of black soil, and enhancing the comprehensive utilization of saline-alkali land.Since the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, HAAS has bred and promoted 879 new crop varieties. The annual application area of its crop varieties has consistently exceeded 8 million hectares, accounting for approximately 60% of the total planting area in the province. The preservation capacity of its germplasm resource bank has been upgraded to 300,000 accessions, ranking it among the top national mid-term banks. Two soybean varieties, "Suinong 42" and "Henong 95", were officially registered in Russia, achieving a breakthrough as the first Chinese soybean varieties registered there. The academy bred the nationally approved pig variety "Longmin Black Pig", filling a 40-year gap without a new pig breed in the province. In the list of the top 10 major grain, oil, and important characteristic crop varieties for 2023 released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, HAAS varieties accounted for 6 spots in soybeans and 4 spots in rice. The rice variety "Longjing 31" and the soybean variety "Heihe 43" ranked first in national planting area for conventional rice and soybeans, respectively.HAAS has won 2 National Science and Technology Progress Awards (First Class), 7 National Science and Technology Progress Awards (Second Class), and 21 provincialministerial level first-class awards. The "Longjing" series of rice varieties was selected as one of China's Ten Major Agricultural Scientific and Technological Landmark Achievements during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period.
